Numerous paranormal investigations undertaken by W.P.R – the group I helped form back in 2005, are conducted in pubs and a common occurence when the team enter the building to begin the investigation is that numerous members of the public in the building begin to sing the scooby-doo or ghostbusters theme tune.
To begin with we found this humorous, after the first few times we would ignore it and roll our eyes at one another and then in the end we wouldn’t even respond. However I was thinking it over recently and although it is meant as a mickey-take – a cheeky insult if you will, they could be closer to the mark than they think.
Take Scooby-Doo for example, the gang of main characters go to places that have repor
ted monsters and ghosts and look for clues, Velma and the others point out all the logical possibilities and in the end they debunk the case in a extreme manner by pulling the mask off of the bad guy.
Okay, so we don’t chase bad guys and pull their masks off at the end of our investigations and we don’t say “jinkies” and “zoinks” but there are similarities:
- going to places that have reported monsters/ghosts etc
- look for clues
- point out all logical possibilities
Now lets take a l
ook at the ghostbusters. The members of the ghostbuster team use modified gadgets that they have borrowed from other field of research to monitor places that people report they have witnessed ghosts.
This is also similar to what we do too!
Sure, we don’t get slimed like the ghostbusters do, and no we don’t use proton packs or ghost traps, but we do use gadgets borrowed from other fields of research to conduct atmospheric monitoring during our investigations.
Also, one member of the ghostbusters is a complete sceptic when it comes to ghosts too! How familiar…
The next time someone sings the scooby doo or ghostbusters themetune at us, I might just launch into a lecture about how their piss take is actually a really bad piss take. haha. ha.
